Surface Land DrainageMole drains are a temporary fix for land which has seen excessive surface water through rains or floods that is unable to drain away.
Mole drains are unlined channels formed in clay subsoil by pulling a ripper blade with a cylindrical foot or torpedo attached on the bottom through the subsoil, creating a small temporary drainage channel. A plug is often used to help compact the channel wall extending its lifespan. However, while it allows surface water to drain, it's unable to allow groundwater to do so. Mole drains tend to be used in heavy soils where a clay subsoil near moling depth (400 to 600 cm) prevents downward movement of ground water. |
Contact Us...If land you own is waterlogged or is having drainage problems, this can serve as a cost effective temporary fix to allow the water to drain, however the underlying problem of ground drainage still remains.
Mole drains are a more sophisticated drainage system than simply ditching. Mole drains again, do not drain groundwater like conventional drainage pipes, but removes water as it enters from the grounds surface. |
